Interview (e-learning) : Martin Kallenborn, Marketing Manager of IMC AG, answers our questions

bsoco : Could you please briefly introduce your company?

Martin Kallenborn : IMC is a full service provider in the field of digital training. Over 1,000 companies and public institutions of all sizes from a wide range of sectors put their faith in 15 years of IMC’s expertise and the high quality of our German Engineering. We offer solutions for learning and talent management, eLearning content, authoring and publishing, business process guidance as well as MOOCs (massive open online courses) for more than 4 million users worldwide. To quote Bersin & Associates: “IMC offers a range of first-class learning technologies to private- and public-sector organisations to support their learning and development strategies.”

bsoco : What are recent trends and future challenges in the area of e-learning?

Martin Kallenborn : Social Networks, Mobile Computing, Analytics, Cloud Computing (SMAC): these four IT forces are changing the business processes of companies and fuelling innovations in the digital management of training processes. One key challenge is to guarantee best user experience. This includes adaptive, customisable learning environments that support social and informal learning processes, tailor-made reports for decision-making and “bring your own device” strategies. In the context of mobile learning, organisations have to fulfil central requirements concerning operating systems (iOS, Android, RIM), technologies like HTML5, CSS3, EPUB3 as well as hosting and security issues.

Efficient and confidential handling of large quantities of sensitive, mostly personal data is extremely important when it comes to the management of educational processes. At the same time this poses great challenges for those responsible for further education: one the one hand with respect to the growing importance of information security and performance considerations, and on the other hand the need for documentation of processes for compliance fulfilment or quality management issues. There is a focus on Learning Analytics that guarantee the support of assistive, analytical and predictive learning processes.

There will therefore be more focus on the cloud moving forward to a tailored learning cloud that will allow much more customisation of learning processes while having scalable and flexible elearning platforms. The challenge will be to integrate all future requirements into one Ecosystem!

bsoco : Could you define your target market and what are the key features of your software?

Martin Kallenborn : IMC supports companies, public institutions and training establishments of all sizes and from all industries with the implementation of tailor-made training processes. The Learning Suite, Europe’s leading learning management system, is the solution to choose for the planning, management, implementation and control of training processes. User friendliness is at the heart of IMC’s product strategy. David Wentworth, Senior Learning Analysts at Brandon Hall confirms this "The super-friendly user interface and numerous layers of flexibility make for a robust solution." eLearning expert Craig Weiss describes the Learning Suite 2013 with the words: "I really like the product. The user interface is easy and crisp to use."

Aside from the on-premise variant, IMC also provides the Learning Suite in the “Tailored Cloud”, which enables both, high individualization and a convenient ad hoc introduction to the digital learning environment. The result is maximum scalability and flexibility, especially for time-limited training, certification and compliance measures, for which IMC received the Microsoft Cloud4Society Award.

IMC Learning Suite offers dynamic audience building, tracking, chasing and reporting features to secure excellent reputation and legal conformity with the most powerful compliance learning management on the market, recipient of the Brandon Hall Award for "Best in Compliance Training".

bsoco : Let us know your news.

Martin Kallenborn : Our aim is to constantly innovate and so IMC updates its software regularly using so called innovation packs. Innovation pack release cycles are becoming shorter and shorter, so that for 2014 there are already three more Learning Suite innovation packs being developed which focus on the support of assistive, analytical and predictive learning processes.

With www.opencourseworld.de IMC is providing the first German language MOOC platform fitted with a modern, reduced and responsive user interface, which displays all the MOOC-relevant learning processes from booking courses right through to informal learning and issuing a certificate. Right now IMC is offerering companies and public institutions the possibility of creating their own knowledge portals and learning applications easily according to the MOOC principle and in this way providing direct access to information using the most modern knowledge transfer techniques.
