Interview (e-learning): Priyank Shrivastava, director of product marketing at Adobe

bsoco: Your company is present in many countries, can we define you as a leader in the field of e-learning?

Priyank Shrivastava: As per various independent research reports published in the past, such as The Elearning Guild’s < http://www.elearningguild.com >, Adobe Captivate is a clear market leader in the area of e-learning & m-learning development tools category. We have customers from USA to Australia, from federal Government agencies to K-12 schools, from world’s leading banks to largest automobile companies, from healthcare to hi-tech. It’s an honor for us to be able to serve more than 80% of world’s fortune 500 companies. You may not realize, but you might have taken few e-learning courses yourself, developed in Adobe Captivate. That is the versatility of Adobe Captivate.

There is another hidden gem namely, Adobe Presenter, which is also very popular amongst eLearning developers who are starting out in the area of eLearning development for the first time. I will highly encourage your readers to check it out.

bsoco: For whom do you make this software ? What benefits would your software bring to your customers?

Priyank Shrivastava: Adobe Captivate is extremely popular with instructional designers, curriculum developers, technical writers and other e-learning developers. Adobe Presenter on the other hand is used by a lot of subject matter experts who are looking for quick ways to record and share video presentations and product demos with voice over and quizzes.

In a world, where learners want everything on their mobile devices, Adobe Captivate is probably the only software, which allows responsive e-learning design. In simpler terms, the developer creates the e-learning course once and Captivate magically transforms it to a tablet course and a mobile phone course. Without Adobe Captivate, the developer had to create three different courses, but not anymore. This saves a lot of time and resources and allows organizations to roll out learning programs really fast, and for any device. We also bundle, a lot of assets such as voices, images, interactions which are used in training content development. The user interface is so simple, that anyone who knows Microsoft PowerPoint, can easily pick up Captivate in a matter of hours. Finally, all of this is possible without knowing any programming.

Adobe Presenter has this really nice way to simultaneously capture the computer screen and the person in front of the web cam. It allows anybody from a subject matter expert to the marketer, to record and  publish almost professional quality product demos, video presentations, tutorials etc. from the comfort of their office. A lot of product demos that we publish on Adobe.com are created using Presenter. It has been saving a lot of time and money for us.

bsoco: Could you tell us more about the best practices for a successful project management ?

Priyank Shrivastava: It goes without saying, that any successfully executed project is backed by meticulous planning. My team drives a lot of projects such as Product launches or customer events and everything starts with a plan. While almost everyone on my team has enough experience in running various projects, I am quite particular about having a plan which is well thought through & documented. We at Adobe follow a DACI model of project management: Driver–Approver-Contributor-Informed. This ensures that there is clarity of role amongst various stakeholders and decision making is fast and unambiguous. Once the plan is signed off, all energies go towards execution and keeping the deadlines. Finally, there should always be a plan B in any project.

bsoco: Let us know your news.

Priyank Shrivastava: The e-learning product team have been working behind the scenes and you will see some great innovations coming in the upcoming releases of Adobe Captivate & Adobe Presenter Video Express. Also, over last many months, we have been working on building a cloud based Learning Management System (LMS) and I am happy to inform you that we are almost there with the finished product. I cannot reveal much about it right now, however in case your readers would like to know more about it, they can register at < http://adobelms.campaignsandevents.com/Default.aspx >.
