Interview (e-learning): Marc Müller, Managing Director and Sales Manager of IMC

bsoco: IMC has almost 20 years of experience. Could you describe your path from start-up to mature company. What does distinguish you from the others on the market nowadays?

Marc Müller: IMC is the leading full-service provider for digital learning.

Internationally renowned for our learning technologies and services we are passionate about creating and supporting innovative and reliable learning solutions that put our clients at the forefront of learning & development.

For over 18 years we have been helping organisations to plan, develop and implement efficient, professional training strategies, as well as take advantage of learning technology solutions which empower people to improve performance.

Emerging from Saarland University in Germany, in 1996, our success has been built on a strong history of education, research and innovation. Today IMC’s solutions are used globally, by over five million users and more than thousand organisations, and we have a network of offices and partners all over the world.

bsoco: What are recent trends and future challenges in the area of e-learning ?

Marc Müller: One of the main topics that will stay has been compliance.

In 2014, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) fined companies a total of £1,471,431,800 for compliance failures*. As a result of the fines and losses, partly stemming from the failure of senior management to engage with compliance issues, many financial sector firms are now looking to create a trickle-down compliance culture which comes from the very top and is driven by the board.

In the past, more often than not, the compliance function was quite separate from the rest of the business. People saw compliance as something that was done by a set of individuals as opposed to the organisation as a whole. It has been quite a culture shift to introduce a pervasive, organisation-wide approach to creating a compliance culture and mistakes have been made. IMC offers off-the-shelf or tailor-made solutions to its customers.

Extended Enterprise training is another interesting topic. For one of its customer solutions, IMC has just won the prestigious Brandon Hall Silver Award "Best Advance in Creating an Extended Enterprise Learning Program" 2015

The concept of the extended enterprise, recognising that success is dependent on partner relationships outside your own workforce, is increasingly becoming an agenda item for many corporates who are challenged with upskilling their external front line staff on the latest products or services. The sheer scale of training, updating and monitoring staff in the extended enterprise is daunting and often encompasses thousands of people, so automating that process is a necessity for many businesses to make it financially viable and practical. Getting the process right across a wide range of stakeholders such as suppliers, distributors, partners and technical support is not an easy task.  IMC is offering the solution with its Learning Management System, Learning Suite.

The most important trend is probably that of the changed learning habits. Learners nowadays would like to be able to access learning content from anywhere at any time.  So IMC Teach, the free cloud service from IMC, which allows users to create content easily, distribute it and measure the learning success is one of IMC‘s solutions to address this trend.

bsoco: For whom do you make this software ? What benefits would your software bring to your customers?

Marc Müller: IMC has more than 1,000 customers worldwide with over 5 million users in businesses, public institutions and educational institutions.

bsoco: Let us know your news.

Marc Müller: IMC is very proud of its new learning concepts and innovation for digital business. So IMC is strongly growing in the area of individual content development for customers and is among the top 20 gamification providers in the world. Additionally IMC has been selected as one of the Top 20 Learning Portal Companies.

bsoco: Thank you for your answers.
